Deep in the heart of Kyiv, 1989. A crowd packs every seat inside the "Dynamo" stadium for a demonstration marking the anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster. Blazing from the scoreboard are the words: "Chornobyl, Prypiat, a warning." Citizens have taken to the streets, desperate for the truth. Years after the catastrophe, there was still no real public understanding of radiation's hidden dangers—and no official accountability. No one in power had faced punishment for the accident itself, nor for allowing the infamous May Day parade to go ahead in Kyiv just days after the disaster struck.
