Rose (2026)

Rose is a German-language historical drama set shortly after the Thirty Years' War. A mysterious soldier arrives in a remote Protestant village and claims to be the long-lost heir to an abandoned farmstead, presenting documents that support the claim while facing suspicion from the people who live there.

Markus Schleinzer directs the film with Sandra Hüller in the title role, portraying a woman living under a male identity in a society deeply shaped by war, religion, inheritance, and rigid expectations. The deliberately austere historical setting gives the drama a strong atmosphere while keeping the story focused on belonging, identity, and social acceptance.
