In August 1960, visionary director Nikolai Berentsev throws himself into an epic sci-fi project chronicling a daring expedition to Venus. Across the studio pavilion, colossal sets rise from scratch, while Berentsev personally crafts intricate models of alien worlds and spacecraft, inventing custom rigs for groundbreaking composite shots. He strives to picture what no human eye has ever seen—life beyond Earth. Convinced that imagination must outpace scientific reality, he pushes creative boundaries, yet meets sharp skepticism from both peers and the scientific establishment. As doubt creeps in, he questions whether audiences truly need his cosmic dreams when Earth is tangled in so many unresolved crises.
