In a fairy-tale kingdom where magic mirrors real life, a broken marriage leaves behind one lingering emotion—Resentment. That’s the name of the daughter of two powerful wizards, Bolotnitsa and Chernogor, who split up but still feud over control of their child. On the day Resentment comes of age, she discovers she’s been stripped of the magical powers she was meant to inherit from her parents. Desperate to reclaim her birthright, she must travel to the human world, find a husband, hold a wedding, and sacrifice him by turning him into a tree.
