At 34, Moscow author Igor Angelevskiy faces his third defeat for Russia's most prestigious literary award. Following the ceremony, his wallet vanishes—stolen, along with the sole keepsake left by his mother. When 20-year-old thief Aldar learns of the theft, curiosity drives him to read Angelevskiy's novels. The books captivate him so deeply that he seeks out the writer as a mentor. Angelevskiy, recognizing raw brilliance and a wealth of lived experience in the young man, takes him under his wing. In time, the two forge an unexpected friendship.
