Three sisters and their mother leave Oklahoma for Los Angeles in the 1950s under a federal relocation program that promised Native families a path to "civilization" through urban jobs. What they discover instead is a familiar broken promise of the American West: the dream of a fresh start dissolving into neglect and crushing poverty. Cast aside by the very policies that uprooted them, they carve out a home in the concrete river channels of LA known as "the tombs." There, a young mother's life is cut short, sending her children down three diverging roads through 1970s Los Angeles — a story that braids together one telling and one flood.
