Deep in the Yakutian wilderness, during the early 1800s, Bishop Ambrose journeys across frozen plains to minister to the newly baptized Tungus people. At his side walks the disgraced monk Cyriacus, who once refused to perform mass baptisms on non-Russian tribes. A brutal blizzard overtakes them. Their pagan guide, Harpoon, saves the bishop’s life, while the newly converted Stepan leaves Cyriacus to perish in the cold. Yet the elder’s death becomes an unexpected miracle of unity—unbaptized Tungus people freely seek the faith of “Cyriacus,” and Ambrose awakens to a profound truth: divine love transcends all boundaries, holding no difference between the baptized and the pagan.
