Ophelia steps into her first ballet class, but she’s immediately different from the other dancers—she carries extra weight. Her hips bump into fellow students, her body overflows the bench, and her reflection blocks those of the other ballerinas in the mirror. She can’t execute the moves with the same polish as the rest, but that doesn’t stop her. Then, the instructor calls out a familiar word: “Fondue!” As the other girls launch into their ballet techniques, Ophelia stands frozen, swept away by memories of the melted cheese dish that shares its name.
