Overwhelmed by soul-crushing poverty and still reeling from the trauma of a past miscarriage, Phú and his pregnant wife Thảo are plunged into even deeper despair when Phú’s mother, Mrs. Thuận, dies because they simply cannot afford her medical care. Desperate and out of options, Thảo turns to a neighbor, Mrs. Tánh, who practices spiritual rituals, and follows her guidance to summon a wandering spirit—hoping it will become a protective household ghost for their home and unborn child. But when the entity lurking in the shadows begins to demand payment for its presence, Thảo is horrified to discover that what she invited in to save her family is, in truth, a merciless nightmare from which there is no escape.
