Our world is flooded with artificial light, as if we’ve declared war on the night itself. The explosion of LEDs and countless new light sources has fueled a growing environmental crisis: light pollution. Recent research reveals that tampering with natural light cycles throws animal and plant development into chaos, disrupts human circadian rhythms, and creates a cascade of other health and ecological issues. Fireflies, for instance, are among the hardest hit—their magical bioluminescence is fading from our nights. The very lights we depend on are drowning out their natural glow, making these luminous insects an increasingly rare wonder.
