An American college student named Mima sets off on a road trip to a remote Romanian village—the birthplace of her late grandmother, Esther. She’s joined by Jacob, a recent film-school dropout, and an 18-year-old translator she connected with on Facebook. Decades after Esther’s death, Mima navigates the unfamiliar landscape using only her grandmother’s unmarked photographs and recorded oral history.
