Deep in the village of Asinan, an age-old ritual called Sedekah Rawa Pening is about to unfold—a sacred tradition meant to shield the community from bad luck and uplift their collective fortunes. At the heart of the ceremony is Pak Diaz, a 45-year-old fisherman on Lake Rawa Pening, and his wife Bu Diaz, 40, who runs a modest food stall by the water’s edge. Climate change has tightened its grip on their livelihood, squeezing their income and testing their resilience. Yet, despite mounting hardships, the Diaz family pours every ounce of effort they have into supporting the Sedekah Rawa Pening, holding fast to the hope that this ancient custom might turn their luck around.
