Did you know? The film’s tense, single-location conversation was inspired by real interviews with Syrian refugees, and the German ambassador character is based on a diplomat who once mediated a similar asylum case.
Why Watch: A gripping tale of resilience against systemic injustice, *Salman* masterfully intertwines a teenager's desperate dream of academic freedom with a high-stakes psychological game. This must-watch film hooks you with its tense, layered conversation and a powerful commentary on poverty and privilege that feels both urgent and deeply human.
A teenage boy named Salman and a psychiatrist, Ahmed, sit in a conversation secretly observed by the German ambassador. Salman insists he is Syrian and dreams of studying at a German university. Police are searching for him after his mother filed a missing person report. He and his mother live in extreme poverty. After being unfairly disqualified from a physics competition so the mayor’s son could claim the scholarship, Salman was driven by that injustice to devise a plan to escape to Germany.
