Ydessa Hendeles’s exhibition, *The Living and the Artificial*, features artworks that each pair a photograph of a real person with one or more teddy bears. This unusual concept so intrigued filmmaker Agnès Varda that she traveled to Toronto to meet the artist and ask questions face-to-face. Through Varda’s DV camera, Hendeles reveals the uniqueness of her creative vision. She also opens up about the Holocaust—a tragedy both her parents managed to survive.
